CARE
I. Cleaning and care of slippers
The slippers are made with natural materials that have suede leather on the outside and soft wool on the inside. Its soft wool fibers are naturally thermostatic providing comfort and breathability throughout the year..
When cared for properly, a quality sheepskin garment or home décor item can last a lifetime. Follow the simple rules for cleaning and care below for years of comfort and style.
If you plan to use a leather cleaner on minor stains or a conditioner to treat your suede, be sure to test the product on an inconspicuous part of the slippers first.
To help retain the shape of your slippers, stuff the inside with craft paper or tissue paper. Store them in their original cloth bags and try not to place things on top of them.
Remove dirt and dust that may have accumulated on the chamois with the help of a soft bristle brush or use a slightly damp towel. If dirt does not come off with brush, dilute mild liquid hand soap in cold water in a container and create a foamy solution. With the help of a damp cloth or a soft bristle brush, apply the solution to the stains on the outside using circular movements. Remove excess solution with a clean damp cloth, then gently press the chamois with a dry cloth and let them dry in the shade in the open air.
II. Cleaning and care of sheepskin – alpaca
Our slippers and home decoration items are made with natural sheepskin. To keep them in good condition and last over time, we provide you with some guidelines.
When you receive your sheepskin rug or home decor item, don’t worry if the wool seems crushed from tight packing: wool fibers are quite strong and will regain their original springy appearance in no time. A vigorous shake can also help restore the fluffy appearance of the wool.
To store your sheepskin rug or accessory, place it in a cool, ventilated place, out of direct sunlight. We do not recommend storing sheepskin garments in plastic bags for an extended period of time as they do not allow the sheepskin fibers to breathe.
All our slippers are made with delicate top quality materials. Machine washing or dry cleaning could cause irreparable damage. Take a look at the cleaning tips to find out how to care for your favorite AKANA accessory.
To remove stains from wool, dilute a mild liquid hand soap in cold water and lather in a bowl.
Do not use detergents, commercial soaps or laundry bleach. Never use fabric softeners or soap with softening additives.
Once you have applied the solution to the stains, gently rub this onto the wool. After stains have been removed, thoroughly remove any residue with cold water jets. Hand squeeze as much water out of the sheepskin as possible.
Whether your rug has been inadvertently cleaned or wet, always air dry it away from any heat source and out of direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry as this will harden the chamois.
When the wool is completely dry, fluff the wool back to its full shape by brushing it thoroughly with a wire brush..
Sheepskin contains natural antibacterial ingredients that keep feet fresh. If your slippers start to develop slight natural odors from wear, you can freshen them up by sprinkling them with baking soda and letting them sit overnight. In the morning, vacuum the inside of your slippers..
III. Leather cleaning and care
Practical yet elegant, leather is renowned for its durability. With proper care, a quality leather garment or accessory can last a lifetime.
Use a clean, soft cloth to dust the leather. Grained leather is a tough leather, so it doesn’t scratch easily. If this is the case, get some colorless wax or a special leather milk from your shoemaker. Put a small amount on a clean cloth and massage into the leather with small circular movements. Allow to dry from 2 to 8 hours. Protect your bag from prolonged exposure to light, intense heat or humidity and when not in use, store it in its original cloth bag.
If your leather garment does get wet, simply let it air dry naturally on a towel, making sure to keep it away from any heat source.
IV. Cleaning and care of gloves.
In order for your gloves to last as long as possible, you need to treat them with care. Gloves should be slightly stretched lengthwise after each use. In this way, its original shape and the length of the fingers are recovered. It is advisable to keep the gloves flat or folded twice so that they do not wrinkle.
Avoid exposing gloves to water. If gloves get wet, let them dry at room temperature, preferably on a towel.
Although gloves should not normally be exposed to water, it is still possible to wash them by hand. Do not machine wash leather gloves.
Also note that gloves lined with fur or containing fur should not be washed in water.
Dilute mild liquid hand soap in a bowl of cold water to create a foamy solution. Do not immerse gloves in water, as natural fiber lining materials may shrink if the water temperature is too high.
Wear the glove on your hand..
With the help of a sponge, apply the solution and gently rub the leather with circular movements in sections. Rinse sponge in water, squeezing out excess water and using a clean side to wipe away excess soap.
Let the glove dry on a towel at room temperature for as long as necessary minutes. While the gloves are still slightly damp, gently lay them down to restore their original shape. Stretch them by rubbing them in the direction of the length of the fingers and let dry.
Repeat the process on the other glove.
Store the gloves in their original cloth bag and try not to place heavy things on top.
